The sum of the digits of a number which is a multiple of 9 is always 9, ie,

    45 :                  4+5 = 9

  1980 :     1+9+8+0=18 : 1+8 = 9

214164 : 2+1+4+1+6+4=18 : 1+8 = 9

etc.
